Job Description

The Clyde-Savannah Central School District has an opening for a Head Mechanic.  Benefits and Health Insurance available.  The Head Mechanic will be responsible for:

• Maintaining school buses and school vehicles in compliance with NYS and Federal transportation regulations
• Diagnosing and repairing diesel and gasoline engines
• Performing preventative maintenance and safety inspections
• Scheduling and coordinating vehicle repair and maintenance operations
• Ordering of parts and equipment
• Utilizing computer diagnostics and maintaining digital repair records
• Performs other position-related duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor

Job Qualifications

• At least two years of experience as a mechanic working on school buses, commercial trucks, or heavy-duty vehicles
• Strong troubleshooting and problem -solving abilities
• Ability to work with DOT and what is expected for school vehicle DOT inspections
• Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and braking systems
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports
• Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in a shop environment
• Physically fit and agile to pass mandatory NYS Physical performance test

Special Qualification

Must have a valid CDL B license with required endorsements and be on the 19A roster for school transportation.
